On the eastern side of Rarotonga is Tiare Taporo a refubished 3 bedroom home surrounded by handpicked lush vegetation lovingly curated by Babrbara Thompson. Barbara passed away, but the seedlings she planted grow on, and now are a living testament to all that is beautiful in Rarotonga.
The homes name Tiare Taporo, originates from Barbaras husbands dad, Andy Thompson. Tiare Taporo was the trading scooner he captained for many years plying the seas between Tahiti Rarotonga and New Zealand. Born in Brooklyn New York, he was well loved and never lost a ship... or his Brooklyn Irish accent.
So what about the house? The common areas are big and roomy even the kitchen could fit everyone (if they wanted to help). All rooms have fans. The master bedroom has a king, in another there's a king split, and the other a queen. All the bedrooms are at the back of the house, far away from noise and the main living areas.
Down the road (almost next door) is "Love Cafe" the love is free, but you'll need to pay for breakfasts, lunches and lattes. It a popular local spot. In the other direction is Super Brown (its actually yellow) they're open late and sell most things to do with food. Beyond that is the fishing club, which has the cheapest strongest drinks on the island, a lot a spontanious late night singing, and the best pool table.
Its 4km to town, and 5km to Muri which makes the location handy to most things. For those new to the island, the eastern coastline is rugged, although people swim, its not for the faint of heart. Mostly people fish, standing on the reef and casting into the very deep, very blue pacific ocean.
Tiare Taporo is ideal for families with kids and couples, the garden is peaceful and unique.
The minimum stay at the property is 5 nights).
The tariff for Tiare Taporo is NZ$230.00 per night for up to six people.
